Aux Vivres - Montreal

When I got back to Canada last April, I wanted to blog about places around like I have been blogging about Korean places I discover. The idea seemed fun, and would make people know about those places I'd come to like as I was living with my family, back home.

Oddly, while it seems like an easy task, it's been hard to push myself to do it.

The first reason?

Internet.

In Korea, uploading pictures on the Internet takes seconds. Here, it takes - I wish I were exaggerating here - 5 whole minutes PER PICTURE.

I am many things, but patient is not one of those. I am very stubborn, tho, so I have finally finished uploading those pictures to write one review, out of the many places I've taken pictures of.

I never want to hear people say that South Korea is underdevelopped. They live so fast even their Internet is laughing at our 3G, as they surf on 4G.

Au Vivres (address, map, and directions at the bottom of the page) is a bio, non GMO restaurant that serves amazing quality food with simple recipes that taste like happiness and putting the stress on buying ingredients from small local places- if your wallet allows it.

When I was in Korea, my Dongtan wife and I always went out for food. The amount of money that went away into restaurant places, wine, and cheese must be unbelivably high. Still. I cherish those restaurant times when we discovered good food stuff.

This time, as I stayed at her place for the bit I was in Montreal, she was the one to bring me places.

Aux Vivres was the one place that made the strongest impression on me, and it was not only because it was expensive.

To be honest, I chose something super duper simple. It was bio organic granola and yogourt with fresh fruits. I have a very small appetite and didn't want to order anything big, but I was not sad with my choice. It really tasted fresh and was exactly the right amount of food for me.

My friend ordered aMexican style plate with red beans, guacamole, vegetables and tortillas with sour cream. Again, while being a really typical plate, the seasonning and the way things were prepared was blissuflly good (I stole a few mouthgfuls of her plate).

The place itself was pretty big, much bigger than I had thought at first. They probably bought the building beside the original store to open it bigger, because some of the original wall separations were still visible and integrated to the design of the places. The interior design was straight-forward and simple, 60s style with red cushioned seats and white walls. Not the place you stay for hours writing a blog, but a place that certainly had the vibe of a good quality quick-time restaurant that serves tons of people on weekdays.

Instead of taking a dessert, after all my meal that was pretty much dessert itself, I took one of their famous vegetable juice. It was really good, I can't remember all the ingredients, tho, cuz it's been a while. I remember tho, that it was far from being a thick texture, and was pretty spicy (not as is hot spicy, but as in spice spicy). I loved it.
