February and Valentine's Day

We the first of February and people are already talking about Valentine's Day. What a great commercial celebration to suck money out of poor people in love. Well at least I know that in Korea rich people also participate to this great money waste Valentine's Day has become. Korean drama has set admirably high (it is admirable in a way) standards and women expect more than just hi, here is a box of chocolate. I love you.

While I totally understand the idea that there is no need to buy anything for Valentine's Day, and it is all a big trap
It's a trap !
I am fighting with that utterly cheesy and romantic self when this time of the year comes and I am in couple. I live cute stuff. And Koreans are sooooo busy that I almost understand the need to make those pre-made celebration dates, in order for them to take a break of their 6 days out of seven working-day routines. It's hard to take a full day off in Korea to date.
There is also a reason why I did not like Valentine's Day as a child.
I was born on February 13.
That means, instead of gifts, I would often get those wax-tasting dollar-store cheap Valentine's Day chocolates from friends in my class. That was the worst, as I dearly love chocolate. And hate cheap chocolate. I blame my upbringing in a chocolate-heaven, as my dad worships chocolate too. But that's another story.
There's also the: wellll I want to go to your birthday party, but I can't sleepover because I have a date the next day.
That kind of bull....t.
When dating, I realized the other day that I had been the only one to care for thoses dates and make them special. I was the one who bought rose petals and chocolates. I was the one who lit up candles. Really. No wonder all my dates have ended in failure.
What do you think about Valentine's Day?
